DETAILS OF PROJECT
The development of the Nencki Affective Word List was supported by the following National Science Centre (Poland) grants: “Opus” 2012/07/B/HS6/02112, “Preludium” 2013/11/N/HS6/01786 and “Etiuda” 2018/28/T/HS6/00507.
The Nencki Affective Word List (NAWL) is a standardized dataset of 2902 Polish words suitable for studying emotions. The NAWL dataset was derived from the BAWL-R, a German word list developed by Võ and colleagues (Võ et al., 2009; Võ, Jacobs, & Conrad, 2006). The NAWL consists of 2902 words, including 1676 nouns, 614 verbs, and 612 adjectives. Each word in the NAWL is described in terms of valence, arousal, imageability, and several widely recognized emotion categories: happiness, anger, sadness, fear, and disgust. In addition, all words are tagged with various lexical features extracted from the balanced National Corpus of Polish Language (NKJP; Przepiórkowski et al., 2012) and the SUBTLEX-PL dataset (Mandera et al., 2015), such as grammatical category and estimated frequency of usage among Polish speakers. We also provide an interactive online tool (http://exp.lobi.nencki.gov.pl/nawl-analysis) that allows researchers to browse and generate specific stimulus classes to meet their needs. The NAWL is openly available to the scientific community.
